so last month when i went to alt summit i was somewhat horrified when i read that one of the parties was themed “downton abbey.” not because i hate downton. i actually LOVE downton abbey and follow the series religiously. it's just … finding something that looks like the 1920s? uber difficult. finding something 1920s you can wear when you're pregnant? forget about it. right?
then i stumbled upon modcloth's selection of decade-organized attire. it was like the heavens opened up and choruses of angels were singing! ha. no but really. all i had to do from that point was find an empire waist dress from the 1920s category and i was all set. empire waist = perfect for prego girls. also, i didn't want to pay an arm and a leg for this dress i was thinking i might only wear once (although it's plain enough and cute enough i'll probably wear it to church a few times now that i have it and know how much i like it) but i bought it on sale for around $30 and was thrilled!
sadly it's all sold out now but if you love it and you click on this link it will show you all the other similar dresses they have in stock.
also, the shoes are made by one of my favorite shoe designers ever – miz mooz – who started her line after walking everywhere in NYC and finding a need for cute but very comfortable heels and boots. my miz mooz boots from years ago (similar to these) are still some of my very favorites. any of her shoes i can walk in for hours and be just fine.
the belt was so pretty and after looking and looking and finding just the right thing, i splurged a little because i knew i'd wear it more with other dresses.
lastly, the accessories like the pearls and gloves were super cheap and still available. so if you ever find yourself invited to a 1920s or downton abbey party don't panic. a couple of the right accessories and you're all set. oh, one last thing. finger waves? don't even try those at home. total waste of time (ha) if you're anything like me with difficult hair styles. just save yourself the grief and pull your hair up or wear a hat 😉
