It's pretty funny to be so used to wearing dresses your whole life, every Sunday, and then to suddenly be forced into a full year hiatus (from all dressy get-togethers at that!). But, I feel like dress shopping is even more fun now because I didn't realize how much I missed having a reason to dress up. However, I was laughing with my friends the other day about how we feel like we need to buy dresses that accommodate winter pasty legs that maybe haven't been shaved for days – because let's be real – with four kids, there ain't NO time for shaved legs on Sunday mornings. Enter: maxi dresses!

Spilling the tea on my favorite maxi
This last month we had our team retreat at The Grand America in Salt Lake City, and we had the BEST time. One of our favorite parts was their famous tea time! The Grand America has the best afternoon tea in the whole Salt Lake Valley, and I've actually been to a couple of others so I can attest to that as truth. Although I don't drink tea, I always get a hot chocolate and love enjoying the elegant atmosphere and the yummy finger foods.
We chose to dress up for our tea time, and I wore this very highly-rated maxi. The deep red had me sold, but they also have a really fun rainbow print if you are into brighter colors, especially with summer coming up!
Why I love this style
This dress is structured yet delicate, which I truly think is just the best of both worlds when it comes to a dress. I want to feel comfortable, but confident and beautiful at the same time! This dress did that for me – and that's something I've really valued during these postpartum months.
It pulls in on the back, and on the front, creating a flattering silhouette without tightening up on your waist – perfection! It's elegant without being over the top.
What to wear with it
I paired the dress with some of my favorite tan booties, and my chain wallet purse. The booties are so great to wear with ANY dress, and they are super comfortable, too! These exact booties are sold out, but here's a cute similar option.

I thought it would be fun to include a little throwback from this post from the last time I wore a maxi at The Grand America! In these photos I was pregnant with Lyla, attending Alt Summit. I remember one of the themes for the retreat was 1920s, and I was so thrilled to finally find a dress that would work! The styles may have changed over the years, but I still LOVE these photos and the memories that go with them so much! Maxis for life.
