favorite cheap eats in salt lake city

hi guys!

this post is going to be a tiny bit out of the ordinary but totally relevant still to my blog because we’re talking the BEST deal on one of the things i love very most in life. FOOD. yes please.

since alt summit (a huge blogger conference) is about to kick off tomorrow, my mom – a bountiful kitchen – and i decided to throw together a little double series post of our FAVORITE foodie spots in our hometown: salt lake city. and luckily i have a super talented foodie sis – female foodie – who is a brilliant writer and an eye for capturing pretty food photos. she provided almost all the pics for this post, and wrote reviews on most of the restuarants too. i linked to anything she's reviewed in detail, in case you want a more in-depth explanation of why we LOVE these places.

this post covers the best cheap eats downtown. the places we go when we want something delicious, fast and affordable. so whether you’re in town for alt summit, or you think you might visit my hood sometime for some skiing or sundance film festival OR you’re a local looking for a new place to grub, this is a post you’re going to want to pin for later. and after you read my cheap eats below, be sure to hop over to a bountiful kitchen to see our favorite bakeries and sweet treats in the beehive.

532 east 400 south, salt lake city

cafe rio is a STAPLE among utahns. it’s quick and cheap and completely addictive. their sweet pork is out of this world. try it in a salad (huge portion) or the tostada – a slightly smaller portion of the salad and only about $5. the burrito smothered enchilada style is the favorite of all the males in our family.

rio grande is the first place my grandmother wants to eat when she flies into town. it’s a go-to, less than $10 per person, never fail family fave. mom likes the santa fe, but really what you’ll hear almost every time you go with us is: cheeseenchiladariceandbeans for the whole table, please. huge portions, hot plates.

232 east 800 south, salt lake city

moochies meatballs was on diners, drive ins & dives (food network show featuring guy fieri) not only because of their meatballs which, of course, are delicious, but because of their ridiculously good philly cheesesteaks too. watch guy fieri down one here

425 south 700 east, salt lake city

hires is our favorite burger joint in the valley. get yourself a big h, fries and fry sauce (totally a utah thing) or if you’re an onion ring lover, swap the onion rings for fries. they serve a mean root beer float or root beer freeze, too. read brooke's review here.

28 south state street, salt lake city

bocata: hands down the very best place to grub in the city creek food court. city creek is the nicest mall in utah, so if you’re there getting your shop on, stop into bocata for a super yummy sandwich. we love the cuban, lamb and meatball most. read brooke's review here.

336 west 300 south, salt lake city

ekamai thai: one of the best thai spots in salt lake! super cheap too. if you’re a curry lover, try the coconut curry. you’ll die and go to curry heaven. read brooke's review here.

hope you love our foodie picks as much as we do! let us know if you try any of them out and what you think! snap a pic & tag us on IG (@abountifulkitchen@mintarrow and @femalefoodie), or leave a comment here on the blog.

  1. Yum! I will admit, I like Vito's in Bountiful 10x more than Moochies:) I've never tried Ekami– isn't it right next to Bruges? We always go there and there is never anyone in the curry place next door so I didn't know! Glad to hear it is good! So jealous that you're going to Alt Summit! Have fun! Love the Foster women's blogs!
