I think when most people move into a new house, they prioritize the rooms that people will see first when they walk into the house as the ones to decorate nicely first! But not us (ha), we were SO READY to redo our master bedroom that I put that super high on the priority list, even before our kitchen!
So I went to one of my dear friends Jen from House Collected to collaborate on this project and she went to work picking things I would love, staying within my budget but advising me on a few splurges that would make all the difference and, as always, she was totally right!
I think my favorite pieces in our room are the splurges – our bedding, custom roman shades, built-ins, and natural wood nightstands. But I also couldn't let go of our bedframe that we bought when we first got married with all our saved pennies at a seconds sale for Pottery Barn (no longer sold there) but Jen's suggestion to update it with a can of gold spray paint was totally on point!
We also had the weirdest hollow spaces in our room that would never have really fit any size of a dresser perfectly, so I also went with Jen's suggestion to splurge on built-ins there and we couldn't be happier with those!
You can read more about Jen's brilliant design behind our master bedroom revamp here, and you can sort of see before pictures in Lyla's newborn shoot here. Also, the pictures in the gold frames in our room are from that newborn shoot by my other super talented dear friend Emmy Lowe. She is also responsible for all the beautiful pictures of our room you see here.

Beautiful! Could you tell me about your carpet? We’re redoing our flooring. Hardwood for most of the home, but we’re thinking carpet for the bedrooms (we have two little ones). What are your thoughts & if you love yours could you tell me what yours is? It looks great!
oh thank you so much! i know it’s stain master but that’s all i know, because the previous owners of the house picked it out and put it in before we moved in. my mom has the same carpet though in a different shade and we both love it! cleans up beautifully!
Every single thing about this room is absolutely stunning! Though we can only imagine how hard it must be for you to get outta bed and start your day each morning 🙂 Jen did such an amazing job designing and Emmy captured it all so beautifully! Thanks again for choosing us to be a part of this project.

Where is your bedskirt from? I love it!
hey shelbi! i added a link to the exact bedskirt we purchased, it matches our bedding perfectly! 🙂
Love it!
aw thanks shan!
Beautiful job! Your bed is one of my favorite things too. Spray paint…it is amazing. Question on your gold frames though. Where are they from? Are they the Pottery Barn Gilt frames by chance? Thanks!
Um…now I see you linked them. Oops. Thanks!
no worries! 🙂
Cute!
Did you just spray paint? Did you do a base coat? And what kind of spray paint did you use?
What size are the prints above your bed?
they’re 30×40!
Is your bedding white? I’m wanting to order white bedding from anthro, but they only have this in cream now. Is yours cream, just looks more white? Or is the white just sold out?
Where did you get the matted gold frames? They are beautiful.
What size are your frames above your bed?
