If I’m being totally honest, Halloween is not usually my jam. BUT I feel myself finally coming out of my Halloween Scrooge-ness this year!! Maybe it's because my kids love it SO much, they start talking about what they’re going to be for Halloween from November 1st to Halloween day the following year (and about every week in between).
But you know what happens when your kids get older? They want to choose their OWN Halloween costumes! So after years of family Halloween costumes, this year I prepped myself for variations of pink, sparkles, and tutus when Anabelle stopped me in my tracks: She wanted to do a family theme again!!! My girls have actually been asking to do Harry Potter for a couple years, and now that we have our own little Harry (!!!) we just HAD to do our own version of Harry Potter costumes!
In the past, we’ve gone as characters from Star Wars, Toy Story, Alice in Wonderland, and before that, the Wizard of Oz. Coming up with an idea for a family Halloween costume can be a stressful situation, so honestly I was stoked that Ani came up with such an amazing idea! And BONUS: everything was delivered to our door. Easiest family Halloween costumes ever, no sewing required.
Once we had our idea and Harry Potter costumes, I researched and researched to find the perfect place to take these pictures. At first I was thinking just a brick wall and maybe having my kids pretend to run their little shopping cart toward the wall (that could've gotten interesting fast haha). But when I actually re-watched one of the HP movies recently and saw that Hogwarts sits above a big body of water, I immediately thought back to our Disney Princess shoot location! A castle, sitting on water?! PERFECTION. It was honestly magical, and mother nature spoiled us with low tide too!
Great costumes, free shipping
Since we all know that I am an Amazon Prime Mom (has anyone trademarked that yet??), it was SO important for me to get as many costumes as I could, easily and quickly! SHIP ME ALL THE THINGS. There's nothing more satisfying than getting everything you need right at your doorstep.
Anabelle as Hermoine
The girls were thrilled to find these super realistic Hogwarts costumes! Add Hermoine's robes to Ani's bangs and wavy hair, and she's totally a dead ringer for Harry Potter's best gal pal.
Lyla as Ginny
Lyla was not about to be left out of Gryffindor house, so she chose to be Ron Weasley's little sister Ginny! I kiiiiinda wish we would have gotten her a red wig but #fourkidslife, and she was just thrilled to be involved in the Hogwarts action!
Millie as Hedwig
My big girls picked out this owl costume for Millie and it turned out just darling. I am totally dying over these pictures of Hedwig holding Harry!!! Her costume is showing that it won't ship in time, so here's one that will!
Harry as Harry
This outfit was super easy to put together. Harry Potter costumes are everywhere, and all we had to add is a white button-up shirt and some black cords! We got the glasses and scarf from Amazon (bless you, Prime delivery), added some Freshly Picked moccs and black eyeliner for the signature lightning scar. I know I am biased, but I'm pretty sure our Harry makes THE CUTEST, sweetest Harry Potter of ALL TIME!! Note: Harry's scarf may not get to you in time, so here is one that should.
Corrine as Fleur Delacour
I wasn't 100% sure what Harry Potter character I wanted to be for Halloween until we actually went and saw Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire on my birthday weekend! Our local Cinepolis is playing old Halloween movies and Harry Potter films (for only $5!) and I was totally inspired by Fleur Delacour. I mean, this monochromatic blue outfit with a beret??? Yes, please.
Neil as Hagrid
Honestly, it was SO much work to put all these costumes together that at the end of the day, Hagrid was just the easiest thing for Neil to be ha! Survival mode is real friends, and Neil is always such a good sport. It was seriously so simple because Neil wore brown pants he already had, and I ordered him a brown top that he could actually wear again because it came in men's tall size! I added the brown vest and a wig (that my girls got the biggest kick out of), and the whole outfit came together with minimal effort!
Family dress up
I actually get asked all the time if I am willing to sell our old family Halloween costumes and I always feel bad saying no, BUT my kids are so imaginative and use costumes constantly. I even remember as a little girl playing dress up, so I love that my kids are into it too. This year was especially magical with our own little Harry playing the starring role for our family Harry Potter costumes!! Happy Halloween!
