free shipping day just means that many retailers offer free shipping today because, for many of them, it's the last day you can get your gifts in time for christmas with standard shipping. along with free shipping day, a lot of the good sales end today. for example, nordys is offering a lot of awesome sales on their favorite products and those little unadvertised sales end today!
